Gregory K. Wells is a highly respected and nationally recognized medical malpractice and personal injury trial lawyer based in Maryland, with more than four decades of experience advocating for individuals and families affected by catastrophic personal injury, medical negligence, wrongful death and aviation crashes. A 1984 graduate of The University of Maryland School of Law, he has built a national reputation for excellence in complex litigation. He is also a highly sought-after Mediator.

Greg is listed in Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury, Product Liability and Professional Malpractice Law;  Maryland Lawyers and Washington, D.C. “Super Lawyers” and in Washingtonian Magazine’s “Washington D.C.’s Top Lawyers  “Hall of Fame”. Greg has represented individuals and families in some of the most serious and emotionally significant medical malpractice and personal injury cases in Maryland and Washington, D.C. His experience includes birth injury and cerebral palsy litigation, delayed cancer diagnosis, surgical negligence, hospital negligence, and other catastrophic medical injury claims. Before devoting his practice primarily to representing injured patients and families, Greg spent the first fifteen years of his career defending hospitals, physicians, and healthcare institutions in complex medical negligence litigation. That experience provides him with a unique understanding of how medical cases are evaluated, defended, and tried.

Recognized nationally for his trial skills; Greg was inducted a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, widely considered to be the premier professional trial lawyers’ organization in America, which limits its membership to no mora than 1% of the lawyers in each State, in 2003. He currently serves as the Regent for Washington, D.C. and Maryland.  He is also a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an international organization of top trial lawyers whose membership is limited to 500 active trial lawyers in the United States and includes over 150 Fellows from nearly 40 countries.  Greg is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has maintained the coveted “AV” rating, the rating for the highest level of professional excellence for legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards, from the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell publication

Greg’s legal experience is extensive and diverse. His non-medical experience includes:

  • Shareholder derivative suits;
  • Lead trial counsel in a legal malpractice case arising from a municipal bond transaction    retained by a national law firm to represent its clients, a national bank and several mutual fund companies;
  • Litigating construction contract disputes on behalf of churches;
  • Winning a First Amendment (free speech) case challenging an ordinance banning campaign yard signs on behalf of a political candidate;
  • Arbitrating breach of contract/fiduciary duty claims on behalf of physicians;

Greg also represented, without fee, a victim of the September 11, 2001, tragedy. Greg’s client, a young man just beginning college, lost his father who was killed at the Pentagon. Greg was able to obtain a substantial recovery for his client.

A long-time resident of Prince George’s County, Maryland, Greg has earned several appointments including, serving as People’s Zoning Counsel (1995-1997); Member (and Chair) of the Prince George’s County Cable Television Commission (1985-1991); Special Counsel to the Prince George’s County Executive (1994-2002); and Commissioner, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (2002-2003). `Greg is a member of Leadership Greater Washington, a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to bring leaders together to make positive community impact in the Washington Metropolitan region.”  An avid music lover and guitar player, he also serves on the Board of the Foundation for the Advancement of Music and Education (“F.A.M.E.”), a Prince George’s County, Maryland- based nonprofit corporation dedicated to giving every young musician the best opportunity to succeed in life by providing music training and academic support.
